Atherosclerose
Chronisch proces waarbij de wand van slagaders verdikken
en verstijven door opstapeling van:

• Cholesterol, vetten

Systeemziekte – mogelijk in alle slagaders

Progressief proces over > 10 jaar

Lange tijd asymptomatisch

Klachten = ernstige atherosclerose

Plaque vorming
• Accumulatie LDL in de intima

• Oxidatie van LDL

• Monocyten migreren -> differentiëren tot
macrofagen

• Macrofagen fagocyteren geoxideerd LDL ->
transformeren

• Schuimcellen initiëren een inflammatoire
cascade
