Intercultural Communication
COMM 335
Professor Diane Carter
University of Idaho
Instructions:
Create a 400 -800-word blog post addressing as many of the following questions as possible:
1. Describe the education system in the country you are studying. Is public education free and
available to all students, or must families pay for their children's education? How many years of
basic education does the typical student complete?
2. Describe a typical school day. When does school begin? When does it end? How many days
do students go to class each week?
3. What percentage of high school graduates continue on to college? What is the college
graduation rate? Does this rate vary by gender, race, and/or other demographic factors (e.g.
urban/rural, socioeconomic class, etc.)?
4. The authors of your textbook point out that "what and how a culture teaches is a reflection of
its beliefs, values, and characteristics." Try to find information about the topics students are
expected to study. How are they similar to or different than U.S. educational topics? How might
this selection of topics reflect the beliefs, values, and characteristics of the country you are
studying?
Remember to cite the sources you used to support your claims!
