Introduction
Designing Training programs for various sports requires consideration of multiple
aspects, such as weather and the player's physical state. Each training phase aims at achieving
particular goals. The trainer has an obligation to ensure there is continuity from the previous
season for consistency and ensuring an all-rounded development of a player. In baseball, the
main goal of training programs is to help players develop maximum strength and convert their
strength into explosive power, especially that involving throwing and hitting. Minor league
baseball teams usually play 142 games in about 160 days. During the season, there are 20 off
days, with half of this happening when the team is playing away from home. A year-long
training program for a minor league baseball player comprises the Off-season, pre-season, early-
season, competitive season, and postseason.
Off-season
In this phase, players will be preparing for the minor league season and start to build up
after the season layoff. The emphasis of the early off-season phase is building the foundational
strength, endurance of the muscles, and size. Minor league players will be required to start with
light weights in building their muscle strengths. In building foundational strength, the training
program has the objective of improving endurance, size, and power, which means that the weight
is light, and repetition sets are within the range of 2 to 4 sets in twelve to fifteen repetitions
(Rogers, 2019). In the phase, players can build strength, improve the size of their muscles, and
increases endurance.
