""Talk about some of the characteristics you'd hope to see in a successful
osteopathic physician? and talk about some of the negative characteristics of a
bad osteopathic physician"" Ans✓✓✓-- I would hope that when a patient
presents with a variety of symptoms, a good osteopathic physcian is able to take a
step back and SEE THE WHOLE PICTURE think about how one underlying factor
could cause all of these issues and not just try to treat all of the symptoms
(example) - good osteopathic physician is also willing to think about ways to
AVOID NEED FOR MEDS or alternatively work with their patients to get them off
medications so that they can achieve balance in their lives - a good osteopathic
physician should also be approachable and a LISTENER so that patients feel
comfortable opening up to him or her and sharing details about their lives that
could be important when making medical decisions - alternatively, - Providers
who are not willing to look beyond the patient's biological determinants of health
might have trouble empathizing with the patient because they don't fully
understand that persons circumstances - physicians who dismiss patients who
make poor lifestyle habits as lazy or nonadherent OR overly-dependent and a
nuisance are more likely to exacerbate the relationship.
"Are you comfortable with the dress code required for OMM lab?" Ans✓✓✓-I
personally am comfortable with the dress code I know it is part of the learning
process. With that being said, I also know that some people might not be
comfortable with the dress code perhaps because of body image issues and I will
be mindful and respectful of that.
"Being that your father is an allopathic physician, how does you feel about you
going into the field of osteopathy Ans✓✓✓-- he wants me to do what makes me
happy and follow my passion (holistic medicine and nutrition) very supportive -
second, my dad has told me countless times that he works with a lot of DOs who
all do the same things as him he has only spoken highly of DOs when I inquired
about it - and finally, my dad is actually the type of person who personally does
not take a lot of medications because he doesn't always think they are necessary
, or the best solution and he feels strongly about not over prescribe so I think this
view aligns with osteopathic principles
"How did you decide which medical schools to apply to?" Ans✓✓✓-- nutrition -
help people get well without meds - underserved urban community - build a
sense of community
"How do you define success? Do you think you are successful?" Ans✓✓✓-I would
define success as a feeling of pride and accomplishment in one's actions. I do
think I am successful because balancing soccer and school was something that I
had been working very hard at for the past four years and being recognized for
the scholar athlete award made me feel proud of my ability to give 100% effort
and excel in multiple areas of my life. I also feel successful despite external
validations because I know im working towards achieving my goal of dedicating
my life to service and learning how to really help people
"How do you learn best? Which learning tactics work best for you? With which
learning tactics do you still struggle?" Ans✓✓✓-- do a lot of work on my own
independently (watch lectures online and take very detailed notes and write
down any questions) - go to office hours and get these questions answered -
when it got closer to the exam, I would study in a group to work through
challenging problems together and learn from each others questions). Something
that I still struggle with is sitting in a lecture all and paying attention enough to
not miss any material im very detail oriented so i rather be able to pause the
lectuer when i dont understand it
"How do you recognize when you are overwhelmed and in over your head? And
what do you do to handle it?" Ans✓✓✓-I recognize when Im overwhelmed just
by the way I feel I start to do everything else very fast paced to maximize the
amount of time I have to study. Some of the times in college when I was the most
overwhelmed was when I was studying for exams on travel trips, buses, and
