Policy Health Issue Increased air pollution is an environmental problem that leads to a public health issue due to the surge in respiratory health problems. According to the American Public Health Association (2019b), air pollution is one of the effects of climate change that is associated with major health problems in the population. An increase in toxic air pollutants and particulate matter in the atmosphere promotes the development of respiratory diseases, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and lung diseases (Esposito et al., 2014).
