Lecture 3: peer context
Winning money: which brain region do you expect to be more active during winning
money?
Nucleus accumbens increases in activity
, •
= peak is around 16 yrs old....
,Social contact and winning money...
= When you win for yourself there is a big decrease in activity nucleus accumbens,
but less when you lose for a friend (but its the same when you win!)
So neural activity in the striatum is modulated by the social context
, Self conscious emotion in adolescence (Sommerville)
- They used an FMRI task and they let people believe that they were being
watched through the camera
- The medial prefrontal cortex activity showed an adolescent-emergent
pattern during social evaluation by peers:
- They first reported what feeling they had as they were being watched: this is
by mid-adolescents
