1. The three constituents of the union Parliament are – President, Lok Sabha and Rajya
Sabha.

2. ⁠ Parliament consists of two houses – Lok Sabha ( lower house )and Rajya Sabha (upper
house)

3. ⁠ Maximum strength of Lok Sabha – 550 members

4. ⁠ Maximum number of members of Lok Sabha elected from the states of India – 530

5. ⁠ Maximum number of members of Lok Sabha to be elected from the union territories of
India– 20

6. ⁠ Manner of election of the Lok Sabha members – direct election, universal adult franchise,
and secret ballot.

7. Required qualifications.-a person should be a citizen of India, must not be less than 25
years of age, one should be registered as a voter in any of the Parliamentary
constituencies. One should not hold an office of profit, one should not be an insolvent.

8. ⁠ The speaker of the Lok Sabha is elected by the members of the Lok Sabha by a simple
majority of members present and voting.

9. ⁠ Deputy speaker of the Lok Sabha is also elected by the Lok Sabha members by a simple
majority.

10. ⁠ The speaker and the deputy speaker of the Lok Sabha can be removed by the members of
the house by a simple majority.

11. ⁠ Maximum strength of the Rajya Sabha – 250 members

12. ⁠ Total number of elected members in Rajya Sabha – 238

13. ⁠ Total number of nominated members in Rajya Sabha – 12

14. Manner of election of the Rajya Sabha members – Indirect election, elected by the elected
members of the legislative assembly of each state, Open ballot system, single transferable
voting system

15. ⁠ Qualifications for membership in Rajya Sabha – same as for Lok Sabha, except the
minimum age i.e. a person should not be less than 30 years of age.

16. ⁠ Term of the Rajya Sabha, it cannot be dissolved by the President of India, it is a permanent
house, one third of its members retire after every two years.
