The Life of a Butterfly
A butterfly's life is a fascinating journey through four distinct stages. It begins as a tiny egg,
often laid on the underside of a leaf. From the egg hatches a caterpillar, which spends its days
eating leaves and growing rapidly. This stage, called the larva stage, is vital for the butterfly’s
development as it stores the energy needed for its transformation.

Once fully grown, the caterpillar creates a cocoon or chrysalis around itself. Inside, a
remarkable process called metamorphosis takes place. Over time, the caterpillar changes into
a butterfly. When the transformation is complete, the butterfly breaks free from its cocoon. At
first, its wings are soft and crumpled, but after a few hours, they harden and the butterfly is
ready to fly.

Butterflies play an important role in nature as pollinators, helping plants reproduce. However,
they face threats such as habitat destruction and climate change. Protecting their environment
is essential for maintaining balance in ecosystems.
