Location = The physical point of where a place is.
Place = Location which has different meanings to various people
Places come with a sense of place and often people form
emotional attachments to them which gives it a meaning
Locales = Locations in a place that are associated with everyday
activities such as schools, hospitals, theatres
Locales structure social interactions and people are likely to
show specific behavioural traits in a locale, these are often to
conform with social stereotypes (subconsciously)
Placelessness argues that a place is not unique such as every UK
street having a costa coffee or tesco, or any other chain shop. If a
town has the same chain shops it is argued it is a clone town due
to the dominance of this repetitive nature. However it can be
argued that the indidvual memories which people create within
their locales are what make the area unique and how they interact
within them.
