The GP has many responsibilities in their roles, one of these responsibilities is to
look after their patients in the communities and most of the consultations takes place
in the GP surgeries or even at times at peoples homes.GP’s have an important role
in the support of people with dementia because people with dementia will have to
have regular check-ups with their doctor, The individual needs to ensure that if they
are concerned about their own health they should see the doctor straight away as
soon as possible. The GP is often the first professional that any individual comes in
contact with. When an individual goes to a GP they can often be referred to a
Psychogeriatrian Or even a specialist in dementia and care and that is just that the
individual gets the correct diagnosis Or carry out further investigation, GPs are the
main referral route for all primary care services in the community and offer a range
of support for the individual with dementia. Are the responsibilities of GPs when they
are supporting an individual with dementia are given general advice on ways of
preventing illnesses and they can often promote fitness, supporting with care
planning for the future when the individual dimension is progressive and get worse,
to give continuity of care and be the key contact point and supporting individuals
with dementia and other condition they may have. The other roles And responsibility
that a GP has is giving out medication for example if the individual has been
diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a mixed dimension they can be offered
