Anatomy 2
Brain is comprised of 3 parts, cerebrum, cerebellum and brain stem

Frontal lobe
In the anterior dorsal of the brain

Responsible for higher level functions such as attention, critical thinking,
planning and impulse control

Contains the primary motor cortex, region responsible for planning and
executing movement

In the precentral gyrus, the most posterior part of the frontal lobe

Parietal Lobe
Lays behind the frontal lobe, most dorsal of the brain, above the temporal and
before the occipital lobes

Important for processing sensory information

Has the main somatosensory cortex

located in the postcentral gyrus, closest to the frontal lobe

perception of touch and pain

Anatomy 2 1

, Higher level visual processing

spatial processing

Temporal Lobes
Lays on the sides of the brain, outside the 3rd ventricle, near the ears and under
the parietal lobe, separated from the other lobes by the lateral fissure

Sensory processing

hearing

smell

taste

high-level visual processing

speech

memory

hippocampus & amygdala

Deep inside of the temporal lobes, responsible for emotion regulation and
memory

Major processing center for sound and language

Occipital lobes
Most posterior/caudal lobe

Processing visual information

Has the primary visual cortex

Non cerebral components
Cerebellum

Lies inferior to the occipital lobe and posterior to the temporals

Most notable for its control over movement, but also handles emotion
