regarding the course of the related disease or illness, he desirability and efficacy of
treatments or remedies, and the prognosis.
Confidentiality - Answer-The interpreter treats as confidential, within the treating team,
all information learned in the performance of their professional duties, while observing
relevant requirements regarding disclosure.
Rendering the message - Answer-The interpreter strives to render the message
accurately, conveying the content and spirit of the original message, taking into
consideration its cultural context.
Professional Boundaries - Answer-The interpreter maintains the bounties of the
professional role, refraining from personal involvement. In order to provide transparency
in the service that is being provided and to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
Transparency - Answer-Interpreters fulfill the duties of a health care interpreter while
engaged in the performance of that role and do not assume any duties that are outside
that role.
Personal Involvement and Conflicts of Interest - Answer-Interpreters should not exploit
vulnerability to their advantage.
Cultural Awareness - Answer-The interpreter continuously strives to develop awareness
of his/her own and other (including biomedical) cultures encountered in the performance
of their professional duties.
