HC 1 anxiety disorders; Chapter 11
Emotions;

- 4 basic emotions (blij, bang, boos, bedroefd)
sometimes 6 basic emotions disgust and surprise is also included

Girls are less happy than 5 years ago (girls more than boys)

In the evolution theory anxiety is a good emotion. If you’re anxious you have more survival of the
fittest ( don’t touch fire, it’s dangerous)

Fear/fright: reflex reaction to immediate (often real) danger (80ms)

Anxiety; reaction to threat of possible danger (150ms), including recognition of dangerous stimulus,
we have to think a lot to consider if it’s dangerous.

Positive correlation between strong fright response and anxiety disorders.

Anxiety symptoms;

- Physical component (heart rate, breathing, shivers, dizzy, headache, blushing)
- Cognitive component (thoughts/images about threat, negative evaluated, unable to cope,
losing your mind)
- Behaviour component (trembling voice, fight, flight (most common) or freeze, nail biting,
anger trantrum, close eyes, don’t speak, suck thumb, seeking proximity (close by careginver))

Anxiety; evaluation of a physical of psychological threat against which one thinks to have no defense.
And to which a physical, cognitive and behavioral component can be distinguished.

Social anxiety disorder; anxiety for a situation in which the child;

- Has to interact with others
- Has to present (presentative in familiar or unfamiliar environment) prestation
- Might get a critical comment of someone else
- Being judged

,Separation anxiety disorder;

- Anxiety to worry to be separated from home or attachment figures
- Not appropriate for developmental phase (all 4 years old have it, 12 is more problematic)
- Avoidance (don’t want to go to school) or excessive anxiety
- Afraid parents might die if they’re away
- Nightmares, physical complaints, anger tantrums
- Related to insecure attachment

,Generalized anxiety disorder;

- Excessive worry or anxiety about several things (school, health)
- Difficulty to control this worry




Specific phobia; clear and persistent anxiety that is being elicit by a specific object or situation;

d. Situational (you’re in a specific situation (being on a concert))




Panic disorder;

- Recurrent unexpected panic attacks with symptoms like heart palpitations, trembling,
respiration, short of breath, pain at chest, dizzy> fear of losing control or dying
- Worry/ anxiety that panic attack will happen again and that it will have consequences (you
think you’re dying)
- Interoceptive sensitivity; you notice smallest changes in body
