What speed should service breaks be applied? - answer20 mph
During Service Break Performance look for - answerequalization and any metal to metal
sounds during test
Reject Service Breaks if - answer● Brake warning lamp or signal is on or comes on
during test.
● Brakes do not meet requirements for stopping distances.
BRAKE SYSTEM - answer▪ Low air Warning device or light should activate @
approximately 55 psi
▪ The low air pressure warning device notifies the driver of air pressure loss
▪ Inspect Tractor protection valve; it protects the brake system on the tractor in case the
trailer breaks away
▪ The foot valve is the control point of the vehicle's service brakes
▪ The relay emergency valve applies the trailer brakes without activating the tractor's
service brakes
Inspector should inspect the following inside the vehicle - answerWindshield Wiper
Controls (On/Off Switch), Horn, Turn Signals Indicator Lamps, Mirror, Seat Belts, Brake
Pedal Reserve, Parking Brake, Steering, High Beam Indicator Lamp (1948 & up).
, Wiper Controls - answerEvery motor vehicle with a windshield must be equipped with a
windshield wiper or wipers in good working order and constructed to permit operation
and control by the driver of the vehicle.
▪ Operation-should be operational
Horn - answerEvery motor vehicle shall be equipped with a horn in working order and
capable of emitting an audible sound for a distance of 200 feet or more.
▪ Switch within driver's reach ▪ Mounting should be secure ▪ Inspect wiring
TURN SIGNALS - answerSwitch / Lock / Indicator Lamps; assembled prior to the model
year 1960 need not be equipped with electrical turn signal lamps

reflect to the driver a view of the highway for a distance of at least 200 feet to the rear of

¾ inch diameter (stars/rock chips) ▪ Damages cannot be closer than 3 inches from each
other ▪ No intersecting cracks
BRAKE PEDAL RESERVE - answer● Power Brakes (1") ● Conventional Brakes -
Nonpower (2") ● Brake Pedal Reserve: Distance from back of brake pedal (when
engaged) to the floorboard
PARKING BRAKE - answerThe parking brake should be so designed that when once
applied, it shall remain applied - despite exhaustion of any source of energy or leakage
of any kind.
