Learning

The definition of learning is defined as the acquisition of skills of knowledge through study,

experience, or from being taught. In Psychology, learning is defined as a relatively permanent

change in knowledge, skills, behavior, or attitudes that result from identifiable social or

psychological experiences. This means that change does not count if they are temporary.

Learning can be cognitive, social, physical, or emotional. Learned behaviors are influenced by

environmental factors. (Cambridge Dictionary, 2024b)

Our sensory systems allow us to absorb information from our surroundings. Each sensory

system sends messages to the brain. A process called sensory integration combines information

from multiple sensory systems. It is then up to the brain to process, interpret, and respond to said

signals. This is how we perform actions. In cellular organisms, specific types of stimuli can

trigger sensory cells within the sensory organs. These sensory receptor cells translate physical

stimuli into nerve signals that travel through the body to the brain. The brain then adapts to the

current situation. (National Institute of Health, 2007)
