, A. Unit Summary
The unit of instruction that will be discussed is the 5th grade general music baroque
music unit.
One instructional strategy used in this unit is gamification by which we use competitive
games to engage the students with the content. The games used throughout this unit include
Pass the Beat Around the Room, Meter Tag, Who’s That Composer, Gimkit, and more.
Another instructional strategy used in this lesson is the flipped classroom technique.
This technique is usually implemented with a interactive video teaching the content with follow
up questions and games for students to show learning.
An assessment strategy this is used in conjunction with the flipped learning is the final
game results that serve as an exit ticket for the students. This assessment is aligned with the
student objective of understanding that the interpretation and evaluation of music is influenced
by knowledge, cultural background, philosophical approach, and personal experience.
B1. Prerequisite Knowledge
The skills and knowledge required from students prior to this unit includes ability to
identify musical instruments and their instrument families. Students also must be able to
identify and perform basic pitch and rhythms.

One academic skill that students need for this unit is reading comprehension. A large
