HIPPA
 A federal law called the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPPA) requires all healthcare providers to
obtain a patient’s consent in writing before disclosing medical
information such as results, treatment, or condition to any
unauthorized person
 The HIPPA law was enacted to secure this information more closely and
regulate patient privacy
 Safeguarding the confidentiality of Protected Health Information
(PHI) is one of the primary aims of the HIPPA privacy rule. The law
defines PHI as “individually identifiable health information that is
