PURPOSE OF MEDICATION

Expected Pharmacological Action Therapeutic Use
The drug binds and accelerates the activity of antithrombin III, an Enoxaparin is used to prevent blood clots in the leg in
enzyme which causes blood to clot by acting on a blood protein patients who are on bedrest or who are having hip
called fibrinogen. It also inhibits coagulation factors Xa and IIa. The
drug is an anticoagulant and prevents conversion of prothrombin
replacement, knee replacement, or stomach surgery. It is

Active gastric or duodenal ulcers. Assess for signs of bleeding and

in hematocrit or blood pressure. Notify
physician or nursing staff immediately
Interactions if enoxaparin causes excessive
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin, anticoagulation.
ibuprofen, or naproxen. ...
Platelet inhibitors, such as clopidogrel, prasugrel, ticagrelor, or
dipyridamole. ...
Herbal supplements, such as ginkgo biloba, fish oil, garlic, ginseng,
and ginger.
