You will be writing your exam on the 6 of November, You are given a chance to
prepare for this exam.
Section A: Comprehension
1. Read through the test to get an overall idea of what the text is
about.
2. Highlight or underline the main idea of each paragraph (this is
usually the first sentence of each paragraph)
3. Read through the questions and make sure you understand the
questions.
4. Read through the text again and identify the answers for the
questions
5. Wite numbers as words
6. Whenever you have a question that says "give reasons",
"motivate your answer", or "support your answer", you should say
yes/no (if it is a yes or no question) and then repeat the question
before answering the question For example
Question: Do you think dogs are the best pets?
Answer: Yes, I do think dogs are the best pets because... No, I
do not think dogs are the best pets because...
Question: Why was the boy sad?
Answer: The boy was sad because
Section B: Visual Literacy
1. You need to ensure that you are able to analyse and interpret the
advertisement
2. Make sure you pay close attention to everything that is written on
the advertisement, AS WELL AS the visual aspects (pictures).
3. When asked about the setting, you need to refer to TIME and
PLACE. For example:
What is the setting of the rugby match?
The setting is in Paris, during the Rugby World Cup.
4. "Consecutive" means directly after each other.
, 5. When asked to quote something, REMEMBER quotation marks
AND the correct spelling of each word.
6. When writing out compound numbers between 20 and 99, it is
always hyphenated, for example:

Seventy-two
Section C: Summary
1. Write a point form summary of no more than 70 words
2. Plan your summary in a rough draft and write a neat conv
3. Number your points from 1 to 7. Do not use bullet points
4. Use a complete sentence for each point
5. Use your OWN words as far as possible.
6. Indicate the total number of words you have written in brackets at
the end of your summary
7. You do not need to provide a heading

PREPOSITIONS: Words which usually show the place of an object (eg. in; on; by; to; into; onto;
between)
PREPOSITIONS: Prepositions usually show the position of nouns in a sentence.
Notice how pronouns are used with the prepositions below:

Preposition: Word used with a noun to show place, direction, time, e.g. at, in, under
