Nursing Assessment: must be given 24-48 hours before labor typically 24 and
34 weeks
Side Effects: Depression, hypertension, anorexia, nausea, decreased wound
healing, hypoglycemia, increased risk of infection and pulmonary edema
Contraindications: Active untreated infections; lactation: avoid chronic use;
known alcohol intolerance; administration of live virus vaccines
Route: IM
