HIV AND AIDS
HIV: Human Immunodeficiency Virus which can lead to:

AIDS: Acquired Immune deficiency syndrome (Person who is diagnosed)
- Aids can lead to TB and other infectious diseases
Aids is an infectious and deadly disease caused BY HIV and destroys the immune
system
With HIV infection the immune system is weakened by the virus.
HIV destroys a type of white blood cell known as CD4 or T-helper cell that normally
helps fight disease and infection
Low T-cell count indicates a weakened or deficient immune system
Causes:
HI-virus lives only in blood, semen and vaginal fluid and the virus is transmitted
when the body fluids of an HIV- positive person come into contact with the blood
of another person

Good nutrition and balanced diet (6 food groups , decrease amount of saturated fat)-

- Lack of finance
Increased activity and exercise –maintain a healthy weight
Resting and sleeping
Adjust diet if you have diarrhea, sore mouth , lack of appetite , weight loss
Manage household resources – family time, money, food

1. Nausea and vomiting
Eat small frequent meals
Avoid high fat greasy foods
Avoid lying down after meals
Eat food at room temperature
If vomiting replace lost fluids with beverages
Provide clean fresh drinking water with electrolytes and soluble fibre
