INTRODUCTION TO BOUNDS - ANSWERS
What are Upper and lower bounds? - ANSWERSA measure of accuracy. They show
you the margin of error in calculations.
Example: - ANSWERSThe length of a calculator is 16cm, to the nearest centimetre.
This is a rounded measurement. Its actual length could be half a unit (0.5cm) more or
less than the rounded figure, that is, between 15.5cm and 16.5cm.
What are Error Intervals? - ANSWERSSometimes a value is given with an error interval.
- add the error interval to find the maximum possible value
- subtract the error interval to find the minimum possible value.
A) 64cm measured to the nearest cm.
Find the lower and Upper bounds - ANSWERSUpper bound = 64.5
Lower bound =63.5cm
1cm/2 = 0.5cm
