1. What was the enzyme that was used and why?
The enzyme used was Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and it was used to because it catalyzes the
hydrolysis of a phosphate group attached to proteins or lipids in the substrate.
2. What created the color change and how?
The hydrolysis the phosphate yields in the substrate para nitrophenol-phosphate (pNPP).
3. Why was the alkaline buffer used for Parts 2 and 3 but not for Part 1?
It was used in parts 2 and 3 to make sure that the pH doesn’t change/
4. Why was it essential to wait to add the enzyme?
It was essential because once you add the enzyme the reaction will start. So if you added it and
let it sit the reaction would've been started and you would be able to see the change in
concentration or absorbance.
