Used to establish EDD/EDB/EDC!

EDD- estimated date delivery!

EDB - Estimated date of birth!

EDC- estimated date of conÞnement (older term)!



To calculate EDD (estimated date of delivery)

Subtract 3 months from the start date of LMP (Last menstrual period)!

Add 7 days!

Adjust the year as appropriate!



*Calculate the EDD of a client whose LMP was March 6, 2021.

Dec. 6 + 7 days

Est delivery date = Dec 13 2021



Terminology

- Gravida: pregnant woman!
- Para: pregnancy that has been maintained beyond 20 weeks!
- Nulli: HasnÕt happened (nulligravida means never been pregnant)!
- Primi (Þrst pregnancy)!
- Multi (2 or more)!

Nulligravida Ð a woman who has not been pregnant

Nullipara Ð a woman who has not delivered a pregnancy at 20 weeks or greater!

Primigravida Ð a woman who is pregnant for the Þrst time.

Primipara Ð a woman who has delivered one pregnancy at 20 weeks gestation or greater

Multigravida Ð a woman who is pregnant for at least the second time.

Multipara Ð a woman who has delivered at least 2 pregnancies at a gestation of 20 weeks or

greater

" G - Gravida!

" P - Para!



GTPAL

- Gravida (Number of times mom has been pregnant including current pregnancy)!
- Term - babies delivered 38 weeks and beyond!
- Preterm - Babies delivered at 20 weeks + one day up to 37 completed weeks. Past 37 is
term ( EVEN IF TWINS, TWO BABIES IS ONE DELIVERY)!

- Abortions - pregnancy lost before 20 weeks (spontaneous abortion = miscarriage) (20 weeks
+ one day is pre term)!

- Living Children - number of currently living children!
(TPAL = outcomes)!

Example: If a woman is G2- this means sheÕs had two pregnancies!

She had a previous live birth of a daughter at 40 weeks

Live birth of a son at 38 weeks

Miscarriage at 10 weeks

What is her parity?

Maria is G4 T2 P0 A1 L2!



Nancy is 20 weeks pregnant

She had a stillbirth at 36 weeks

Second birth at 42 weeks

G3 T1 P1 A0 L1!

Stillbirth at 36 weeks still preterm whether baby was stillborn or not!



Explain the following parity!

G3 T2 P0 A0 L2!

This means currently pregnant with 2 living children that were delivered at full term!



*Para- pregnancy maintained 20 weeks and beyond REGARDLESS OF OUTCOME*!

Linda is 37 weeks pregnant

Her Þrst pregnancy resulted in spontaneous abortion at 12 weeks

Her second pregnancy resulted in a live birth of twin boys at 32 weeks

Third pregnancy resulted in live birth of daughter at 39 weeks
