society with social issues such as racism, unemployment and poverty rife.
The Gilded Age - The Era Post-Reconstruction with lots of corruption in politics,
specifically in Congress.
It is called this because of the appearance of happiness over the top, but a very
depressing society underneath.
Rutherford B Hayes - President of the US between 1877 and 1880 (One Term),
Republican.
Ended Reconstruction and fought for the Spoils system to be reformed.
James Garfield - President of the US between March and September 1881 (One
Term lasting 6 months), Republican.
Also supported the reform of civil service appointments and also uncovered the
Star Route Scandal.
Charles Guiteau - The man who assassinated Garfield
Chester Arthur - Vice-President to Garfield from 1880-81, President of the US
between 1881 and 1884 (One Term), Republican.

Benjamin Harrison - President of the US between 1888 and 1892 (One Term),

their fortunes through the rags-to-riches method. Their brutal investments and
lack of empathy for their customers earned them this title.
Also known as Captains of Industry depending on who a person supported.
Cornelius Vanderbilt - 1794-1877.
The Robber Baron who developed the Railroad Industry with his buying of stocks
in various railroads.
First earned his fortune in Steamboat services.
