A detailed explanation of what genetic inheritance is, how it occurs, and the effect on genotypes and phenotypes. This overview also looks at Mendelian inheritance, how alleles determine the phenotypes of organisms, and the principles of the Hardy-weinberg equation. Created by a graduate Biochemistry student who is now studying Biological Sciences at Cambridge University. This is designed to be used for all levels of learning, from GCSE to university. When learning biology at school, I often found that when some of the topics were too simplified I did not understand the information. Hence, I have created this document to be easy to understand but still fully explain key concepts.

GENETIC
FATS INHERITANCE
Transmittance of genetic information from parents to their
offspring.

Genetic inheritance
Genetic inheritance is the process by which genetic
information is passed from parents to their offspring throug
DNA, which is organised into structures called chromosome
Each gene, a specific sequence of DNA, contains the
instructions for making proteins that perform essential
functions and determine various traits, such as eye and hair
colour.

Dominant and Recessive Alleles
Alleles can be classified as dominant or recessive. In a
heterozygous individual, a dominant allele will override or
mask the expression of a recessive allele.
For example, if an individual has
one dominant allele for brown
eyes and one recessive allele for
blue eyes, they will have brown
eyes.
