Was a fighter pilot in the RAF
Had a scholarship to Cambridge for English but later changed the
degree to archaeology and anthropology
He was apparently abusive to his wife and had an affair with her best
friend
His wife killed herself and left behind 2 children
He was a poet laureate
He tended to write a lot about the countryside and mythology and he
focused on imagination.
