An opening assignment gets students to work before the bell has rung
-it is short
-it is manageable for students to work on independently (without assistance)
An Opening Assignment
-it is NOT BUSY WORK (rather a review of curriculum material, extension of a previous
lesson, mind engaging activity)
- are generally brief, about 5 to 10 min. to complete
A sign of a well managed classroom is when students enter and start work immediately
- without prompting from the teacher
