Medical History and Physical Exam - ANSThe first step in diagnosing illness is to have a your
doctor review your medical history and conduct a physical exam

Medical History - ANSIncludes information about your current health, including current physical
problems, your past health including prior medical concerns, family history of disease,

Physical Exam - ANSTo evaluate overall health. The doctor focus on areas of concern. Doctor
may also order additional diagnostic testing

Blood tests - ANSBlood tests analyze the components of your blood and anything carried in the
plasma ( i.e. enzymes, proteins, sugars, etc.). Many different blood tests may be done
depending on what the suspected problem is

CBC ( complete Blood count) - ANS-most common- used to evaluate overall health. The teat
measures: -hemoglobin- allows RBCs to carry oxygen
-Hematocrit: the percentage of RBCs in the blood volume -White blood cells: fight infection
-Platelets: clotting

X-Ray( radiography) - ANSTake 2 dimensional pictures of your bones and internal organs.

CT( Computerized Tomography) - ANSAlso used X-rays, but provides more detailed images of
your organs than conventional x-rays do. X-ray tube rotates around the body to give
cross-sectional images of the body. Used to
-Locate and identify tumors
-Identify bone and joint damage
-Identify muscle and bone disorders
-Monitor disease like cancer or heart disease

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) - ANSSimilar to CT, however it uses magnets and radio
waves instead of x-rays to generate the images of the inside of the body
-locate and identify tumors
-identify bone and joint damage
-Identify damage caused by heart disease
-Examine the nervous system in detail
