Symptoms - ANSEvidence of a disease. Sx
Prodrome - ANSSymptom indicating an approaching disease. Appearance of a rash or fever.
Earliest stage.
Physical Exam - ANSReview of all systems & observation of signs of illness.
Inspection - ANSVisual exam (skin, hair, nails)
Palpation - ANSTouching surface of body w/ hands and fingers
Percussion - ANSTapping body to evaluate tissue by sound.
Ausculation - ANSListening to body sounds with a stethoscope
Palor - ANSPaleness, lack of color.
Physical Exam Tools - ANSSphygmomanometer, Ophthalmoscope, Otoscope, Hammers
Ophthalmoscope - ANSExam the eyes
Otoscope - ANSExam the ears
Hammers - ANSTest reflexes
Biopsy (Bx) - ANSRemoval of tissue for microscopic exam. Needle withdrawal of fluid. Small
punch (skin) Endoscopy (Rest. & Digest.) Surgical removal (tumor or node)
Vital Signs (VS) - ANSMeasurements that reflect basic functions necessary to maintain life.
Temperature (T), Pulse Rate (bpm), Respiration Rate (R)- breaths/m, Blood Pressure
(BP)-mmHg
Blood Pressure - ANSSystolic/Diastolic 120/80. Lubb/Dubb. Systolic- heart contracting.
Diastolic- heart relaxing
Sphygmomanometer - ANSBlood Pressure Cuff
