EED2601
ASSIGNMENT 4
DUE DATE: 29 AUGUST 2024

, Learners may prefer one or more of several learning styles, and on this basis, we
place them in the following categories: auditory learners, visual learners and tactile
learners.

1.1 Explain the following learning styles using your own understanding after reading
what literature says about them and give one example on how you are going to teach
learners with these different learning styles:

(Curriculum development, teaching and learning for the environment 5 Book)
(Conti, 1999: 112).

a. Tactile Learners

Tactile learners, also known as kinesthetic learners, prefer to learn through hands-on
experiences. They excel in learning by doing and engaging in physical activities. This type
of learner benefits from active exploration and physical interaction with their environment.
Tactile learners often find it easier to understand and remember information when they are
physically involved in the learning process.

(Conti, 1999: 112).
Example Teaching Method:
For tactile learners, an effective teaching method in environmental education would be to
organize an outdoor field trip where learners can physically interact with nature. For
instance, during a lesson on plant biodiversity, students could visit a botanical garden to
touch and examine different plant species. This hands-on approach allows them to connect
with the subject matter through direct experience, enhancing their understanding and
retention of the information.

b. Auditory Learners

Auditory learners absorb information best through listening. They excel when they can hear
and discuss content. These learners interpret the underlying meanings of speech through
listening to tone, pitch, and speed, making them adept at following oral instructions and
participating in discussions.

Example Teaching Method:
For auditory learners, an engaging teaching method in environmental education would be to
incorporate interactive discussions and verbal presentations. For example, organizing a
debate on climate change allows these learners to listen to different viewpoints, articulate
their own ideas, and engage in meaningful dialogue. Additionally, listening to podcasts or
guest speakers discussing environmental issues can help auditory learners absorb and
process information effectively.

c. Visual Learners
