gives the impression that Mrs Johnsone is a
cruel woman in the metaphorical statement
with "a stone in place of her heart". The
metaphorical 'stone' suggests she is cold,
primitive and unfeeling however the
audiences view of her slowly softens when

learn the hardship she has suffered.
