D253 values based leadership Task 2 Western Governors University 1 My Story
Good Afternoon everyone, thank you for taking the time to be here. Let’s get started on our first meeting together. I would like to tell you a little bit more about myself. I understand that some of us have worked together before when I was in the same position as you are now, but for those who don’t already know me, my name is and I am the new Customer Service Manager and I will be overseeing this team.
I have worked in Customer Service for a very long time, in fact, my very first job at the age of 16 was as a customer service team member for TjMaxx, the retail store. I know how difficult customers can be, and it’s even harder when they like to throw the old adage of “the customer is always right” in your face, because that is not always true. I can remember very distinctly when I was about 17 and working the customer service counter at TjMaxx and having to call my manager to the front to assist me with a customer who had changed the tags on several pieces of merchandise and was proceeding to make a scene. My manager came up and
took control of the situation, talked the customer down (all while reiterating that I was doing my job and that I was not at fault), and got the customer to understand that those tags did not belong to those items and therefore we could not sell them for those prices but
that we would gladly walk said customer around the store and find the correct tags and proceed with the check out process if they would like.
I was thankful to have a manager that had my back and that would step in and deal with the crazy so that I could take a moment to collect myself. I hope to be that for each and every one of you. Whether it is an out-of-hand customer or an issue with a coworker, I want
you to all feel like you can reach out to me and see that I am here to assist you and guide you, not just to be your boss.
