Reflective Essay:
Studying Unit 3 on short stories has been a delightful journey that has both resonated with my
personal experiences and enriched my understanding of the genre.
1. I have always been drawn to fiction, finding solace and inspiration in the imaginative
worlds crafted by authors. Before engaging with this module, I had read short stories
sporadically but never delved deeply into their analysis. However, this unit has sparked a
newfound appreciation for the concise yet impactful nature of short fiction. One of my
favorite short stories is "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. Its haunting portrayal of blind
adherence to tradition and the inherent cruelty within human nature left an indelible mark
on me.
2. One section that particularly stood out to me was the discussion on narrative structure in
short stories. As mentioned on page 56, "Short stories often employ a tight narrative
structure that includes exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution
