Unit 15 - Development Planning for a Career in Business M1 D1
M1- Assess methods of achieving development need within the timeframe of
the career plan
I will be assessing various methods of development needs within the timeframe of my career plan.
This will help me understand more about these methods and how to achieve these aims and
objectives.
For me to achieve my short-term objective, which is to achieve a minimum MMM or DMM in my
Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business. In order to do this, I will need to improve my knowledge
about the various topics in Business. To do this I will need to focus in lessons and study topics at
home, so I remember all the information. I also need to submit work earlier and to deadlines so I do
not get capped to a pass, as this will affect my overall grade. It is imperative that I am alert to the
real working environment in business and what is required of me when working in an international
business company. My target grades will mean I get into university in which I can a get a degree in
international business which, will give me the best chance of getting the best possible job. One way I
can develop and increase my knowledge is by purchasing business course books or do some online
study. Business books whether online or in paper form will benefit me a lot, as I am learning a lot of
the key information that it will improve my work which I submit. This would increase my chance of
getting my target grades. This links to my next specific measurable target to improve my knowledge
and understanding of the business world for when I start university. I am going to research and
analyse different affects businesses have on various stakeholders and their effect on businesses. I
have been watching various business talks from successful entrepreneurs on YouTube, TV etc, and
using various websites understand more and more and have no intention on stopping improving my
knowledge as, the more knowledge the better I am and the better I will be for my future job and
university.
Another important factor is knowing of how to cope with university such as exams, coursework and
other challenges. This is because one of my targets is to choose my university choices and decide
what is going to be my main choice and second choice. I will do this by going on UCAS and reviewing
the offers and compare and think what university will be better for me and benefit me. Using UCAS
and information form past students from universities can help me cope with university. There are
many people who share their own advice on dealing with challenges and stress with university. This
could make me fully prepared for university and guarantee that I can complete my full degree at
university. I have chosen Middlesex University as my firm choice and University of Westminster as
my insurance offer. I chose Middlesex University as it is closer to where I live, I like the opportunities
that you get such as a professional placement year or a year study abroad. To help with this my
other target is to go to a taster/experience day at Middlesex University to see the university and
learn more about my course. I have already booked and attended the experience day and found out
more about the course, what it offers types of teaching and learnt more about student finance and
what happens if I do not get the grades.
Having work experience that is business related will help me to gain knowledge about my career
goals and make me aware of the real working environment. I currently work at Morrisons on the
weekends, but I would like to progress my job role and/ or find a summer job before I start
