INTRODUCTION

(P6) My research question is as follows – “Does drinking water guarantee
clear and healthy skin?”. I choose this because clear skin is something
majority of the people want to achieve and there are many different
options and opinion out there regarding how to achieve it. With the
research, I conducted, I found out that drinking 8 glasses of water not
only helps with skin but also helps with digestion, circulation, absorption
as well as excretion which is because the body is mainly made up of 70%
water.

SECONDARY SOURCE 1
A high number of people agreed and said they indeed saw a change in their skin after drinking
more than 8 glasses a day. They described their skin to be “glowing” and “more radiant” as
well as making them look “more younger and having an “amazing complexion” but they also
stated that their “diet also played a role in their healthy skin”.
Whilst a high number agreed, a small amount begged to differ and stated that “Water
consumption has nothing to do with how your skin looks” as well as saying “It has no effect
whatsoever”. A small part of people had mixed opinions when it came to this topic as they also
believed the type of moisturiser you use also has an effect on how your skin looks. Some
people stated that “Organic moisturisers are more effective and are gentler on your skin as it
doesn’t have artificial products in it.” Whilst some say, “it totally depends on the moisturiser
you use” and “nothing got to do with your water intake” (University Of Winsconsin Hospitals
and Clinic Authority, 2019)

SECONDARY SOURCE 2
Some people have stated that “water makes a big difference in skin health” and that “Without
adequate water intake, skin appears duller, and wrinkles and pores more prominent”.
According to the study, this is because the water that is being consumed is being used to
plump up the skin, which causes wrinkles and pores to be filled in. a professor of plastic
surgery of the University of Chicago stated that “When skin is hydrated, plump, and elastic,
it’s less likely to crack and let in external particles that can cause irritations and blemishes.”
There have been many cases where people tend to complain more about acne and skin related
problems when they are dehydrated as a change in diet can affect what types of oils our skins
secrete, which can be associated with acne. (Few, 2019)

SECONDARY SOURCE 3
Water has many benefits including benefitting the skin and human body in general. According
to this study, water has many essential benefits for the skin including helping the skin maintain
moisture and helps replenish the skin tissue as it delivers nutrients to the skin cells. It also
claims that water is an anti ageing treatment, which helps keep the skin “well hydrated and
glistening” which helps reduce the development of wrinkles. It further states that drinking
water helps “combat skin disorders like psoriasis, wrinkles and eczema” as well as helping the
body flush out the toxins in its system. It also helps in the increasing of the metabolism and
improvement of the digestive system. (Ahmed, 2019)

SECONDARY SOURCE 4
Hydration and skin play a big role when it comes to the human body. This is because being
dehydrated not only affects your skin but also affects “the health of your heart, liver pancreas
and kidney”. Your skin is mostly made up of water, so when there isn’t enough water, it begins
to suffer and become irritated. Scientifically, your skin has a “natrual barrier which helps
retain moisture”, so once that barriers function is inturupted by dehydration, it becomes
difficult for your skin to maintain its role as it will become “dry and sensitive”. This will
