BIOL 2200 PATHOPHYSIOLOGY: CASE STUDY 1/2 REVIEW Correctly Answered Questions| UpToDate | Already Graded A+
Explain the 3 plasma protein systems of the chemical portion of inflammation : 1. Clotting proteins: Cascade reactions that activate proteins which produces fibrin net that traps pathogens and forms a clot. 2. Complement System: Cascade reactions that activate proteins which kills pathogens directly or intensify reactions of other components of the inflammatory response = very strong defenders against bacterial infection 3. Kinin System: Cascade reactions that activate proteins which assist with inflammatory response. Major kinin is bradykinin which causes increased permeability and acts with other compounds to produce pain. IL-1 : Interleukin- 1 2 | P a g e Produced by tissue macrophages. Responds to bacterial endotoxin and tissue damage. Helps neutrophils migrate to site of inflammation Stimulates acute phase reaction: fever & loss of appetite Causes epithelial cells to produce other cytokines (IL8) TNF : Tumour Necrosing Factor Produced by macrophages Released particularly in response to bacterial antigens & IL1 Helps neutrophils migrate to site of inflammation Stimulates acute phase reaction IL-6 : Produced by macrophage
