Evidence-Based Practice and Quadruple Aim
Evidence-based practice (EBP) and the Quadruple Aim must be connected to optimize healthcare performance. Connecting the Quadruple Aim to EBP enables nurses to identify the best strategies to improve patient outcomes while reducing healthcare costs. Additionally, EBP encourages nurses to be proactive, leading to better patient care. Finally, EBP can help to bridge the gap between research and practice. As part of the Quadruple Aim, healthcare provider work life is also improved, while population health is improved, patient experience is enhanced, and healthcare costs are reduced. For example, using evidence-based protocols can help reduce medical errors, leading to better patient outcomes while reducing the costs associated with unnecessary tests and treatments. First and foremost, all these measures are underpinned and bolstered by EBP. The use of EBP to standardize care and minimize variation in practice is a cornerstone of patient safety. This approach also ensures that healthcare providers deliver equitable care to all patients regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic status. Beyond enhancing access to care, EBP ensures that everyone receives the best possible care, regardless of their ability to pay.
