U5 R&R: Differences in School Life
Write an article in [Japanese] comparing school life in Australia and Japan. The article should
be suitable for publishing in a school magazine. (400ji)
Hi everyone! Today, shall we talk about the differences between Australian and Japanese
high schools?
Firstly, did you know that in Japan, they have a separate middle and senior high school?
It’s unlike here, where we stay in one high school for 6 years. If your friends went to separate
high schools, it’d probably be hard to stay in contact.
Also, Japanese students have three school terms from April to March of the following
year. Japanese schools have two mid-term exams and three end of term exams! I think so
many exams would make me cry from the stress! We only have two big exams in 4 terms, so
I’m glad.
Anyways, please remember that keeping clean is a part of Japanese culture. We keep our
shoes on but Japanese students change from their outside shoes to indoor shoes.
Japanese students also get a break between every period, just like us. I thought other
schools in Australia did too but surprisingly they don’t get the breaks like we do.
Japanese students also stay in the same classroom for the entire day unlike us Australian
students, where both teachers and students change classrooms. I wish that our school did that.
I think that Japanese schools are very fascinating and I definitely would like to try them for
myself. What about you?
