First Aid - -The immediate and temporary care given to the victim of an
accident or sudden illness until the services of qualified medical
personelle can be obtained

-STAT-MD - --24/7 medical assistance hotline at the University of
Pittsburg Medical Center
-Available for pre-screening PAX before flight and in-flight medical
emergencies. Will assist in deciding severity of emergency and
possibility of diverted flight
-Follows care through release from hospital
-Checklist found in the Flight Attendant KIT (Inflight Medical Incident
Report)
-To initiate the patch to STAT-MD only basic info is needed, (age,
symptoms, sex) not a complete medical incident report

-Why contact SMD? - --STAT-MD assumes all liability once contacted. If
FA does not request STAT-MD, even at pax request, that crew member
is liable for passengers medical condition
-Should be contacted even when onboard medical (doctor pax)
personelle assists
-Also to protect ourselves from people hoping something goes wrong so
they can sue us

-Guidelines For Handling First Aid Emergency - --remain calm
-identify self as flight attendant
-first on scene remains with pax

-Determine Nature of Illness - --FA won't diagnose an illness, but seek
info to shed light on pax's symptoms

-What to do if pax in need of first aid is unable to provide information - -
Search for information
-traveling companions
-medic alert tags (necklace, bracelet)
-identification in wallet/purse
-carry-on luggage

-Cell Phone Emergency Medical Info Screen - --Smart phone feature that
allows user to enter personal medical conditions, medications, parents,
blood type, organ donor status, weight, and height

-Flight Attendant Rules - --1st FA summons others (ring call bell as
many times as necessary)

, -2nd FA gathers equipment and seeks additional help
-3rd FA notifies FD and completes the Inflight Medical Incident Report
("Patch Checklist")
-4th and 5th FA will assist as needed and tend to the PAX in the cabin

-Requesting Medical Assistance - --Ask for help if needed

relinquishing duties. May include: driver's license with MD designator,

-STAT-MD Patch - --Once a captain is notified, a 3-way patch is
established
-Captain declares medical emergency to F9 operations
-Dispatch calls AIRINC establishes 3-way patch with STAT-MD
-"Doc in the Box" records flight info and transfers call to doctor,
physicians trained in emr medicine with an aviation background
answers call and advises medical treatment within 1 minute of receiving
call
-As a crew member, follow the STAT-MD physician's directions. Any
onboard medical assistance must also follow STAT-MD's directions

-Administering First Aid During Landing - --FA may continue providing
care during landing (not be in jumpseat)
-Remaining FAs will ensure both the A and B jumpseats (by doors) are
covered
-If nobody in jumpseat, must write ASAP report

-FA Responsibilities Following a First Aid Incident - --Cabin Condition
Report
-Inflight PAX Witness Report
-Inflight Incident Report (online) completed within 24 hours

-Medications - --Do not accept medication for storage
-Do not administer medication
-We don't want liability
-Can give a bag of ice, but warn it could freeze medication
-Can provide Frontier's FAK pre-packaged aspirin
-Can provide water to take pill(s)

-CPR Directives/DNRS - --"Do Not Resuscitate" order
-Legal document to withhold CPR
-Frontier is unable to honor a DNR (STAT-MD covers us)
