Trafficking in drugs is a global problem although “Jan everybody” knows little about this
crime phenomenon, because we are normally concerned in incidents like rape and
murder. We as human beings tend to be ignorant to those things that doesn’t impact us,
but we are so much wrong. The impact of such a organise crime phenomenon like
syndicate drug trafficking, effect our pockets as rate payers, poor image of our Country
(because of corruption), our youth and much more. The South African Drugs and Drug
Trafficking Act 140/1992 read with the South African Criminal Law Amendment Act
105/1997 was implemented because of the seriousness of this crime. In other Countries,
this crime is considered so seriously that sentences for trafficking in drugs, range from
long term imprisonment to death penalties.
