If the LOW WATER button will protrude from the GOVERNOR, and the diesel engine will shut down. The GOVERNOR SHUTDOWN light on the control panel will be illuminated and the locomotive will appear to have suffered a low oil malfunction. However, the LOW WATER button will protrude to indicate the true cause of the shutdown. Crankcase Over Pressure Button - Answer-Located at the left front corner of the diesel engine near the governor. It monitors the pressure in the diesel engine crankcase. If pressure is detected the device will cause the LOW OIL buton to protrude from the governor and the diesel engine will shut down. The GOVERNOR SHUTDOWN light ont he control panel will be illuminated and the locomotive will appear to have suffered a low oil malfunction. However, the CRANKCASE OVER PRESSURE button will protrude to indicate the true cause of the shutdown. Engine Overspeed - Answer-Located at the front fo the diesel engine near the GOVERNOR. If it detects excessive diesel engine rpm it will shutdown the diesel engine. When the handle trips it points TOWARDS the ENGINEERS side of the engine. Engine Startup - Answer-* Place the isolation switch in the START-STOP-ISOLATE position * Close the battery knife switch * Turn on the Engine Run and Fuel Pump switches on the control stand * All circuit breakers in the black area of the circuit breaker panel must be turned on * Hold the fuel prime/engine start switch int he prime position until the return fuel sight glass is full (the one closest to the diesel engine) * Rotate the fuel prime/engine start switch to the start positionConduct a locomotive air brake test when: - Answer-* Making up a locomotive consist * Adding locomotive to a consist * Other than rear locomotive is removed from consist * Locomotive consist is rearranged Locomotive Air Brake Test - Answer-1. With the independent and automatic brake valve handles in RELEASE position, apply the independent brake. 2. After observing brakes apply on each locomotive, release the independent brakes. 3. When brakes are released on all locomotives, make a 10 psi brake pipe reduction using the automatic brake valve. 4. After brakes apply on all locomotives, actuate and observe independent brakes release on all locomotives. 5. Reduce brake pipe pressure an additional 10 psi with the automatic brake valve and determine all locomotive brakes reapply. 6. Cut out the automatic brake valve. 7. Observe gauges to verify that equalizing reservoir indicates no leakage and that brake pipe leakage does not exceed 5 psi per minute. 8. Move automatic brake valve handle to RELEASE position and cut the brake valve in. 9. Determine that all brakes release. 10. Fully apply independent brakes upon successful completion of this test. Locomotive Air Brake Test (NOTE) - Answer-Note: Upon successful completion of the test, reapply the independent brake. When does a Locomotive need to be inspected? - Answer-Each CALENDAR day. How do you initiate movement with the RTC? - Answer-In order to initiate a speed selection from STOP, the operator must first press either vigilance push button, and then select the desired speed within 5 seconds If a brake setting of med or higher is commanded with a speed setting of 4 MPH or higher, the RCT will emit an audible warning and post a message on the display alerting the operator that they have 30 seconds to: - Answer-1. Decrease the selected independent brake override to low or release 2. decrease the speed selection to couple or lower. If neither is done, a service stop will be initiated Tapping the Headlight Button on the RCT twice will do what? - Answer-Cause the headlights to switch to bright in the direction of travel. How long does the Tilt emergency feature give you to return to an upright position and what will it do if you don't? - Answer-5 seconds and place the train in to emergency brake How do you know a locomotive is in remote mode? - Answer-Each LCU system includes 2 amber strobe lights (one for each side of the locomotive). These strobe lights will be active any time the locomotive is transferred to remote control mode. Control Stand Set-up steps - Answer-3. Set up locomotive for TRAIL a. Fully apply Independent brake b. Make a 20 psi brake pipe reduction c. Cut out the independent brake (Trail) and move the independent brake handle to RELEASE d. Cut out the Automatic Brake Valve, and move handle to continuous Service/Handle off 4. Throttle in IDLE. Remove the reverser and insert RCO lockout device. 5.
