Do not allow visitors/personnel with active herpes infection to attend to newborn UNLESS infection is in crusting stage, active infection, diarrhea, open wounds, and infectious skin rash Encourage breastfeeding for immunologic factors Prevent hypothermia keep nb dry, warm Place stockinette cap on head Take temp at admission, q4-6h If temp 36.4C, place in radiant warmer with temp probe; double wrap; skin to skin -leads to depletion of glucose and leads to usage of brown fat which results in ketoacidosis and possible shock Normal NB vitals Respirations: 30-60/min (1 full min) HR: 110-160, may be 100 during sleep, as high as 180 when crying Temp: 36.5-37.5C BP: Avg 80/50, not measured normally
