According to the IUCN, Environmental education is the process of recognizing values and
clarifying concepts to develop the skills and attitudes necessary to understand and appreciate
the interrelatedness among man, his culture and his biophysical surroundings. Environmental
education also entails practice in decision-making and self-formulation of a code of behaviour
about issues concerning environmental quality.
It involves teaching individuals about environmental issues, fostering skills for critical thinking
and problem-solving, and encouraging responsible behaviour towards the environment.
1.2 Explain why environmental education is considered an emerging field with fuzzy
boundaries.
