Representation - The constitutional principle that allows people to select delegates to make laws on their behalf. It is used in the Legislative branch. Checks and balances - controls that each branch has to limit the power of the others Federalism - a division of powers between levels of government, generally between national and state 1st Amendment - Freedom of Speech, Press, Religion, assembly and Petition (RSPAP) 2nd Amendment - Right to bear arms 4th Amendment - no illegal Search and seizure 6th Amendment - Right to a speedy trial by jury in criminal cases 8th Amendment - prevents Excessive bail and cruel or unusual punishment 10th Amendment - Rights reserved to states Preamble - first part of the constitution. Contains six goals and mentions popular sovereignty Amendments - third part of the constitution. Allows for changes to make our constitution flexible
