Jump seat qualification - ANSWER -In the event that a flight attendant becomes incapacitated a crew member qualified person can sit in the "C" jump seat.
If any other non qualified person to help stand in they sit in 1D.
The Person in jump seat "C" only role is Door 1R in an emergency situation only.
Turbulence - ANSWER -If expecting turbulence the captain will contact the FA to inform of the forecasted turbulence. At least 5 minutes prior or if it is unexpected the captain will turn the FSB sign ON.
If appropriate the captain will make an announcement to the PAX. Flight attendant will also need to make the announcement. Always have galley cleaned up because of this.
FA makes the Turbulence Unsafe (Inflight Service Discontinued) announcement even if pilot performs a PA announcement
Light Turbulence - ANSWER -Light strain against seat belt
Loose objects remain at rest
In-flight activity may be conducted
Little or no difficulty in walking Moderate Turbulence - ANSWER -Captain will let the FA know by interphone
At least 5 minutes ahead turn FSB sign on
Make a PA advising FA to be seated
Strain against unsecured objects move about. Inf-flight service and walking are difficult.
Severe Turbulence - ANSWER -Occupants forced violently against seatbelt, unsecured objects tossed about. In-flight service and walking are impossible.
Extreme turbulence - ANSWER -Aircraft is violently tossed about and is practically impossible to control. May cause structural damage.
Decompression - ANSWER -2 Types:
Rapid
Slow leak - Harder to detect
Foggy
Difficult to breath
Pressurization - ANSWER -The artificial cabin altitude will remain at approx. 8000ft.
Rapid Decompression - ANSWER -Structural damage
Indications:
Explosive noise
Sudden decrease in air temperature
Fogging in the cabin
Rush of air and unsecured items head toward opening
Slow leak decompression - ANSWER -Air leak
malfunction of pressurization system
First noticeable indication may be when cabin pressure reaches 14,000ft and the oxygen masks drop.
Decompression Chamber - ANSWER -35,000ft = 30-60 seconds Hypoxia:
Headache
Light headed
Dizzy sensation
Respiratory changes and difficulties
Excessive sleepiness/fatigue
Nausea
Blue coloring of skin, lips and fingernails
Deterioration of the senses
Euphoria
Unconsciousness
