, Introduction
There are many ways for a person to earn a living in life, one of the main ones being employed
through an organisation that will allow them to work hours that are required and earn a salary.
Although the other way that a person can earn a living is through being employed by an agency
which means that their jobs change all the time, and they are never in the same place. So essentially,
they are working temporarily for an organisation rather than knowing where they are daily.
According to a study by…. agency, work can have some benefits such as flexibility as workers can say
yes or no to whatever shifts/hours they want, and the other benefit is the money it is normal for
agency workers to be paid a higher hourly rate than people that work for an organisation.
Rose Road is a company that provides services for children and young adults with disabilities. They
operate across Hampshire and surrounding areas helping families with their children that have
multiple or complex disabilities. Some of the services they provide include respite breaks,
community outreach, and holiday and weekend playschemes where the staff that work there
undertake regular training to make sure the standard of care is always there for the clients. Within
Rose Road, it is important that a high level of care is given so that the families can have a well-earnt
break for a day.
The main problem that Rose Road is having is the number of agency workers that are in the
organisation daily. After meeting the CEO Steve Swift and having a chat with him regarding the
relevant information that is needed. This research was created, and the overall questions have been
answered by breaking it down into relevant sections.
This research is going to help understand what drivers there are for people to be part of an agency
over being employed by an entity like Rose Road. Within this research, there has been some
background information on the sector as well as some micro factors purely affecting Rose Road. The
research will also include answers from two questionnaires that have been done and help identify
these reasons from an agency worker’s point of view.
