.1. Discuss firearm injuries. Incorporate differences between injuries due to different types of firearms in your discussion. There are two types of firearms weapons; rifled and shotguns. A rifled weapon includes military weapons, hand guns, rifles, and any other weapon which contains grooves through the barrel of the gun. They can either be low velocity (<360m/s) or high velocity (450-1500m/s). A shotgun is a weapon with a smooth barrel which contains a cartridge with small pellets which are expelled upon firing. The two different weapons create different wounds which can be used to identify the type of weapon used; these injuries are also dependant on the range of fire and are classified as either contact, close range (<15cm), short/mid range (15cm-2m), or mid/distant range (+2m).
