Moira is the only strong female character presented in Handmaids tale'
Different types of strengths- she had the strength to run away and live
underground -> Offred had the strength to endure life as a handmaid
and the strength to survive -> Ofglen had the strength to commit suicide
Offred does represent passive resistance rather than active
Is Moira really 'strong' -> living underground, she's always put on a
pedestal and portrayed as a hero but she isn't -> she's just a human ->
her human flaws don't make her weak though
Arguably a discussion of human weaknesses-> what bait we are
susceptible to and what defines our personality
For Moira, she wanted freedom, freedom to be with whoever she
wanted, to have alcohol and cigarettes whereas Offred is more willing to
sacrifice those things in order to see her family again and eventually see
the fall of Gilead.
