Beliefs/Values -○ Reformist not revolutionary ○ Equality of women can achieved through legal means and social reform Ex: write more bills and elect the right people ○ Men and women are essentially the same, with the same capabilities, and the same rights ○ Women should not have to stick to prescribed gender roles ○ Women deserve equal education. Without it, equality can not be achieved. All must must be educated as to the value of gender equality. The oppression of women we, end when society is educated about how society suffer from it. ○ If men can understand how they will benefit from gender equality, they will support gender equality. Sexism is a product of ignorance. ○ Women ought to be free to live autonomous lives and make their own choices, including reproductive choices , the choice to work, the choice to stay at home, etc... ○ Choice is a key word in liberal feminism If laws are passed to ensure gender equality, gender equality will be ensured Past/ Current Concerns -Suffrage Equal rights amendment (era) Title IX Equal pay act Reproductive rights Domestic violence/sexual assault Problems -○ Still largely androcentric. In focusing in proving that women can do everything that men do as a way to demand equality, they imply that equality would not be deserved unless this were so, and that what men traditionally do is inherently more stable than what women traditionally do. They also make it seem women still need men's permission for feminism to exist.
